Terakawa Aimi (寺川愛美), better known simply as Aimi (愛美), is a Japanese singer and seiyuu from Hyogo Prefecture. She is the vocalist of the seiyuu idol band Poppin'Party (2015+), the main band of the BanG Dream! (2015+) mixed media franchise. She is more recently a member of the seiyuu idol unit Peaky P-Key (2020+) and its umbrella group D4DJ ALL STARS related to the Dig Delight Direct Drive DJ (aka D4DJ; 2020+) mixed media project. She is also a member of the seiyuu idol duo D/Zeal (2018+) with Tadokoro Azusa related to THE IDOLM@STER MILLION LIVE! (2013+) game franchise.
She is also a former member of Milky Holmes Feathers, Milky Holmes Sisters (a collaboration of the main Milky Homes group and Feathers), and of RUMMY_LABYRINTH (part of the Cardfight!! Vanguard franchise circa 2014).
Her younger sister was also an idol and still is a seiyuu who goes by the stage name Chiharu (or Hokaze Chiharu) and was a member of the digital idol group 22/7 from 2016 to early 2021. She also joined the agency HiBiKi Cast.
On February 15, 2022, her agency HiBiKi Cast announced she will go on hiatus from March 1 to April 30 (roughly 2 months) to treat an unspecified ailment. Her return was confirmed when she appeared on a Bandori! TV live event on May 5, 2022.[1]
Music career[]
Despite having a heavy emphasis on here music career which became extremely busy once she became the lead vocalist of Poppin'Party, she managed to maintain an active voice acting career.
Most of her non-anime solo career occurred between 2011 and 2013 where she released 10 singles (5 with Pony Canyon and 5 with King Records in 2021 and 2023) and 3 albums (1 with Pony Canyon and 2 with King Records) with the last 2 reaching the top 20 of the Oricon album charts, AIMI SOUND (2022) peaked at #14. Only 2 of her first 5 singles reached the top 40 of the Oricon singles charts, but all 5 of the most recent ones did and the first 2 (ReSTARTING!! and Kazania) reached #4 and #10 respectively. However, she has held 8 one-man lives from 2013 and 2024 and 5 joint lives (including Animelo Summer Live 2012, 2022, 2023, and 2024).
As a solo artist, she has performed 11 anime tie-in songs, 3 TV show related tie-in songs, and 1 game tie-in song. As a team up with other artists performed 4 anime tie-in songs and 1 game tie-in song. She has performed over 100 character songs (surprisingly most were not for the BanG Dream! franchise)!
During 2013, she performed some songs as part of the Milky Holmes Feathers spinoff duo (paired with Ito Ayasa), but none of their songs were released as singles. The spinoff duo did performed some songs that were released as singles in collaboration with the main Milky Holmes unit. In 2018, she performed some songs as part of the seiyuu idol duo D/Zeal for the Idolm@Ster Million The@Ter Generation mixed media project.
In early 2015, she joined the Bushiroad-produced (who produced the Detective Opera Milky Holmes franchise that Aimi was already part of), but yet unnamed, seiyuu idol band that performed a concert of mostly anime cover songs. The band was not official formed until 2016 when it gained all its members and was announced formally as Poppin'Party which released its debut single Yes! BanG_Dream! (the only original song in the initial concert). With Poppin'Party, Aimi achieved impressive success as the band released 21 singles from 2016 to 2024, only one of which did not make the Oricon top 40 singles chart, only two others did not make the top 20, and 11 reaching the top 10. Two singles, Initial (イニシャル) and Photograph, released in January of 2020 and 2021 both reached #1. During the same time period they released 2 mini-albums and 13 albums (8 of which were cover song collections) only 2 of which did not reach the top 10 of the Oricon album charts and BanG Dream! Girls Band Party! Cover Collection Vol. 4 (バンドリ! ガールズバンドパーティ! カバーコレクション Vol.4; 2020) reached #1. Two of their non-cover song albums, Poppin'on! (2019) and Breakthrough! (2020), reached #4 and #3 respectively, and their mini-albums Live Beyond!! (2021) and Seishun To Be Continued (2023) reached #10 and #9 respectively.
With Poppin'Party, she has participated in over a dozen solo lives with several others being with other Bushiroad and usually Bandori bands. They have also performed over 24 tie-in songs for anime and video games, most of which were for the BanG Dream! anime franchise, but also included songs for the Future Card Buddyfight anime franchise (2018+), the Remake Our Life! anime (2021), and the The Fruit of Evolution anime (2021).
