Takahashi Rie (高橋 李依, born February 27, 1994) is a Japanese seiyuu and singer from Saitama Pefecture. In 2016, she won Best Rookie Actress at the 10th Seiyuu Awards alongside Tanaka Aimi and Uesaka Sumire. In 2022, she won the Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the 16th Annual Seiyu Awards alongside Komatsu Mikako. She is a member of the seiyuu idol unit earphones (2015+) related to the anime Seiyu's Life! (2015).
She found success early on with significant main roles only 2 years after her debut. Her first main role (in Seiyū's Life!) also resulted in her joining a seiyuu idol singing group called "earphones". She is very good friends with seiyuu Ueda Reina and they do a radio show together called ShigoHaji (aka 「高橋李依・上田麗奈 仕事で会えないからラジオはじめました」 or "Takahashi Rie • Ueda Reina: We started a radio show because I can't see you at work."). She also became good friends with seiyuu Tanaka Minami when they did a Fate/Grand Order related radio show called Chaldea Radio Station starting in January 2017 and is still going as of early 2023. The radio show was renamed Chaldea Radio Station PLUS in Spring 2019 when another seiyuu Ōkubo Rumi (known for playing Chinatsu Yoshikawa in Yuru Yuri and Nana in Talentless Nana) was added as an alternate/fill-in host.
She is probably most known for portraying Emilia in Re:Zero (2016+), Asahina Mirai/Cure Miracle in Mahō Girls Precure! (2016), Megumin in Konosuba (2016+), Takagi-san in Teasing Master Takagi-san (2018+), Ena Saitō in Laid-Back Camp△ (2018+), Mash Kyrielight in various Fate/Grand Order anime starting in 2016, Dan Kōzo in Bakugan (2019+) and Futaba Ichinose in Seiyū's Life! (2015). Recently she has also been known for portraying Anzu Hoshino in Romantic Killer (ONA 2022), Aileen Lauren Dautriche in I'm the Villainess, So I'm Taming the Final Boss (2022), and Lilith in The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious (2022),
On July 22, 2022, her agency 81 Produce announced she had tested positive for COVID-19 on the previous day July 21. On August 1, 2022, she announced on her official Twitter account that she was resuming work activities.
On December 31, 2023, she narrated the recorded version of the 74th NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen ("NHK Red and White Song Song Battle") with Enoki Junya.
Biography[]
She watched Magical DoReMi (1999+), Higurashi When They Cry (2006+) and Soul Eater while in high school. She noticed that many male characters, especially younger ones, were voiced by female voice actors; as this fact interested her, she decided to pursue a career as a seiyuu. She joined her school's broadcasting club during her last year of high school, and she also won a special citation for voice acting at the 4th High School Animation Fair. During her final year of high school, Takahashi participated in an audition sponsored by the voice acting agency 81 Produce. After graduating from high school, she attended 81 Produce's training school, 81 Actor's Studio. While continuing with her lessons, she was a co-MC on a TV anime info show called Anime DON! (Spring 2013 to Spring 2014) and became part of the temporary seiyuu idol unit Anisoni∀, alongside Ueda Reina, Hayashida Chiyeri, and Tsumita Kayoto. After graduating from the 81 Actor's Studio in 2013, she formally joined 81 Produce. She worked many part time jobs such as at supermarkets and a bra factory.
In 2013, she played background or supporting roles in each series, such as Tanken Driland (2012), Aikatsu! (2012+), and Stella Women's Academy, High School Division Class C³ (2013). She also played the role of a student in a voiced comic stream of the online manga Pokémon Card Game XY: Yarouze! (2014?). Her first significant supporting role was in Captain Earth (2014).
Music career[]
Until 2021, most of her musical activities were anime tie-ins or with the seiyuu idol unit Earphones (2015+) with Kono Marika and Nagaku Yuki. While she has only recently done solo live shows (February 2022) as a singer, she has performed live with the Earphones group and performed many anime theme songs. She is a frequent MC for smaller anime related events. With Earphones, she has released 5 singles, all of which reached the top 4o of the Oricon singles charts, but only the most recent Churata Churaha (チュラタ チュラハ, 2019) peaking at #27. They have released over 10 digital singles that were uncharted. They have released 4 albums, the last 2 reaching the top 30 of the Oricon album charts, with the most recent Theory of evolution (2020) peaking at #16. and They released 1 EP identity (2021) which peaked at #9 on the Oricon charts. They have performed 11 anime tie-in songs and around 15 tie-in songs for other purposes like games and TV shows. They have performed 8 one-man lives from 2015 to 2022 and 10 joint lives thru 2019 including Animelo Summer Live 2016.
She was a member of the seiyuu idol duo ZWEIGLANZ (2020-only?) with Chihara Minori related to THE IDOLM@STER MILLION LIVE! (2013+) game franchise. She was a member of the seiyuu idol unit Ohanamishuu Tsubakigumi (2019-only?) related to the anime Tenka Hyakken: Welcome to Meiji Hall! (2019 shorts). She was a member of the seiyuu idol unit Pearly☆Fairy (2018 to 2019) related to the anime Million Arthur (2019+). She was a member of the seiyuu idol unit Comic Girls (2018-only?) related to the anime of the same name in the same year. Gakuen Seikatsubu (2015 to 2016) related to the anime School-Live! (2015). She was a member of the mixed seiyuu idol unit L.I.N.K.s (2014 to 2016) related to the anime Ange Vierge (2016).
Her success as a solo singer has been expanding, though. She released a cover album (7 songs) in 2018[1] related to Skilled Teaser Takagi-san and a pair of mini-albums (12 songs total) in 2020[2] related to the anime LISTENERS.
To start her solo career, she released a 5-track EP Tōmei na Fusen[3] in June 2021 which reached #19 on the Oricon charts and a 2nd EP in January 2022 which reached #21. She has only released 1 digital single so far. She has performed a solo anime and a TV drama tie-in song and over 150 character songs (over 70 of which are anime tie-ins)! She has held 2 one-man lives in 2022 and 2023 and 3 joint lives including Animelo Summer Live 2019.
